Why I chose Urban Water System Laboratory

Water environment is always a big issue. As cities growing, the demand for water increases dramatically and meanwhile residents ask for not just purified water but better quality. And our laboratory's researches focus on developing advanced water treatment technologies to meet these demand. Furthermore, since we are not just scientists but also engineers, it is our responsibility to apply those new technologies in the world. And in my opinion, Japan has already done very good in technologies transfer. Thus, it is very good chance to study in our laboratory.

    About my laboratory life

I think it is very wonderful to do research here. Professors encouraged and enlightened me in study. Friends in the lab also help me a lot for experiments. My research topic is to develop a novel method for water purification. As it is based on a new theory, it is challenging and I met a lot of theoretical and technical problems. I've discussed with professors about details of research proposal and experiments again and again and we are solving those problems one by one. Of cause, I felt delighted when we figured out how to do and fell blue when I didn't make any progress. It is life and will never be easy. We need to taste all the good and bad. Anyway, I enjoy this kind of life and hoping to make discoveries in the future.

Why I chose Urban Water System Laboratory

I am from China and doing doctor’s course at the urban engineering, the University of Tokyo. When I did my undergraduate at Harbin institute of technology, I studied focus on the water environment. The water environment is important for the life of people on the world. However, the river, lake and global water have been contaminated by the industrial production and life of human. In order to investigate and protect the water environment, I chose the urban water system laboratory. Especially, the urban water system and treatment plant have been developed very well in Japan. We should learn the technique and research methods at here. I think it will be interesting and useful to develop the water environment.

    About my laboratory life

My research is focus on removal of phosphate to control biofouling by ferrihydrite adsorption. About research, professor and other teachers will give you many advising and help. The lab cooperator will teach you use the instrument and give you useful comments to improve your research. The welcome party, farewell party and new year party enhance communication between each other. Overall, you will learn more technology and get many friends at here.

Why I chose Urban Water System Laboratory

My home country, Thailand, is still a developing country and still has insufficiently of clean water. Therefore it needs a very large number of manpower with expertise of water treatment field in order to create a substantial of clean water development throughout the country. Therefore, it is my aspiration that not only to pursue the Doctoral Degree with my best endeavor to become an expert in this area of specialization but I also desired to contribute my obtained knowledge from studying at here to benefit my home country after graduation. In my point of view, Japan is a leader advanced of technology in Asia and even in the world. In my academic area of interest, Japan has substantially of experts and laboratories in Environmental Engineering. Simultaneously, The University of Tokyo is the most famous University in Japan as well as in the world. Furthermore, I found that Urban Water Systems Laboratory at The University of Tokyo also has several academic activities and scientific papers which indicate extremely intensive works of stuffs. Therefore, it is my best chance to pursue my Ph.D study at Urban Water Systems Laboratory, which with helpful guidance and supports me from distinguish experts in Environmental Engineering field (Urban Water Systems).

    About my laboratory life

I have to say again that it is my best chance to study Ph.D at Urban Water System, The University of Tokyo. I also have a freedom of thinking to create my research topic as I like and love. It causes me enjoyable to do experiments with varies & modern instruments and machines. When I have problems related to my work, my advisors always gave hands and spend a lot of times with me to solve these problems. It seems to be family relationship as I felt and obtained from Urban Water Systems laboratory, The University of Tokyo. All team members in our lab are kind and sincere to help me even though it is difficult and hard times. It indicates my spending times that not only great experiences obtain from academic works but also warm relationships gain from laboratory life.
